Mr. Bruce's Great Birthday

Thanks Laurel of Afton Station for picture.

First, Mr. Bruce wants everyone one to know how much he appreciates the birthday wishes. He had a big grin all weekend as he read the emails, tweets, and Facebook comments.
This was a perfect weekend for a 76th birthday, the weather was more like a spring day than a fall one. Saturday we had lunch at the Mexican Villa, a local favorite Mexican place. Then we went to watch Grandson William at the Ozarko Marching band festival; he plays the xylophone with the Willard, MO band. These bands are fantastic, so much hard work and dedication from band members and their parents.
Sunday we drove down to the Downstream Casino, it is just over the Missouri state line in Oklahoma. I think the slots knew it was his special day since he came out even after playing a couple of hours. Me, it's not my birthday so slots didn't mind taking my money.
Then we drove over to Afton Station on Historic Old Route 66. I have been following Laurel Kane's blog "Ramblings of a Route 66 Business Owner" for several months; I was delighted to meet her in person. Laurel and her friend Ron McCoy could not have been nicer. She took Mr. Bruce's picture, which of course I'm sharing all over the Internet.
The Afton Station is in a renovated D-X filling station of the 1930 era. It is filled with Route 66 memorabilia, vintage postcards, various books on Route 66, etc. (Learn more on Postcards From The Road.) It is a place one should visit if in the area more than once, so much to see.
The collection of majestic restored vintage cars is worth the drive to SE Oklahoma. There are Packards and other collectible cars in the showrooms. I think Mr. Bruce could have driven a couple home if allowed to do so. We both admire old cars, but you know how men are, they LOVE old cars. Later in the evening Mr. Bruce was telling his brother about the different cars, and of course, they remembered either that they had had one or someone else who did. Men have good memories on such matters.
Mr. Bruce has 2 more weeks of his birthday month..let the partying continue!
